WCET & NUTN hosted a Think.In where attendees discussed “regular and substantive” interaction in higher education and the role of accreditation in distance and online education with a cross-section of educators: leadership from regional and national accreditors, college accreditation liaisons, distance education administrators and other stakeholders.

Insight from Accreditors: What obstacles face accrediting agencies today? How can agencies & institutions work together to ensure quality while meeting new federal guidelines on accreditation? This panel features: Dr. Ellie Fogarty, Vice President of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education; Dr. Kevin Sightler, Coordinator of Substantive Change, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges; Dr. Christopher Oberg, Vice President/COO, WASC Senior College & University Commission; and Dr. Leah Matthews, Executive Director, Distance Education Accrediting Commission.

Lunch Keynote: Dr. Carlos Morales, president of TCC Connect, speaks on the challenges and triumphs of standing up one of the first fully online campuses recognized by SACSCOC on an accelerated timeline.

Institution Viewpoint: What are the difficulties being faced on college campuses as they work to keep their distance education and competency-based education programs inside the rapidly-changing bounds of accreditation and federal oversight?
