Job Description

This position serves to assist current and prospective students pursuing higher education through online/distance learning opportunities offered through South Dakota State University. This position will work with a variety of individuals and students; including adult learners, traditional students, and high school students to ensure access to appropriate student services such as, but not limited to, admission, registration, academic advising, etc.

  • Faciltate one-stop student support services for distance students.
  • Facilitate advising, registration, and admission of distance students.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of an orientation to online learning which will introduce current and prospective students to SDSU online, campus resources, study skills, policies and procedures.
  • Provide general information regarding options and connect individuals to appropriate departments and services.
  • Facilitate and coordinate GPIDEA and AGIDEA programs including academic department approvals, consortium representation, and student application and registration.
  • Provide academic advising for the Bachelor of General Studies degree program and assist with a variety of adult degree completion efforts and programs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Four-year college degree in field related to student services (i.e. Human Development, Psychology, Sociology, Education, Counseling, etc.) by date of application.
  • Minimum of one year experience in student support services/academic advising or customer service.
  • Understanding of the use of technology; for example, e-mail, web browsers, Microsoft applications, etc. to deliver student services in a higher education setting.
  • Ability to establish good working relationships with students and colleagues at all levels across departments and at other institutions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
