Job Description

The social emotional learning (SEL) specialist within the Learning Experience organization will play a pivotal role in WGU’s Social Emotional Learning initiative with a focus on the design and distribution of learning, resources, and assessments across the learning lifecycle.  The success of this role relies on tight collaboration and synergy with an SEL specialist role in the Student Experience organization that focuses on the student-facing support and implementation of SEL.  The successful candidate within the Learning Experience organization will draw on evidence-based research related to pedagogy, androgogy, and assessment design of social and emotional learning, wellbeing, and positive psychology for lifelong learning success that incorporates self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills and responsible decision-making. This specialist will actively engage with college and cross-functional leadership to surface and document existing social emotional learning experiences, identify gaps and opportunities, and stay current with nationally-recognized social emotional learning initiatives to support the organization’s strategic direction as well as establish outcomes and goals for SEL. The successful candidate will achieve these outcomes by drawing on expertise in learning science, design of technology enabled/online learning curriculum, learning design and user experience design at scale

  • Determines strategic and tactical approach for social & emotional learning design at WGU to support overall mission and goals
  • Collects, curates, and leads the creation of interactive, social and emotional learning resources and experiences
  • Collaborates cross functionally in the development of project budgets and operating plans
  • Collaborates and advises on changes and interventions to ensure project goals are achieved
  • Co-creates learning journeys and experiences for students and staff to support transformational learning experiences
  • Influences others in a positive, productive way without having supervisory authority
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Positive Psychology, Organizational Psychology, Human Resources, Higher Education Administration or other related discipline. PhD preferred
  • 7 years of experience performing related essential functions
