Job Summary:

Northern State University (NSU) is seeking a collaborative and motivated Director of Online Learning and Continuing Education (OLCE) to shape the future of online and professional programs and lead strategic growth in online degree-seeking students. To achieve these goals, the Director collaborates internally with constituencies across campus and externally with corporate partners, community leaders, and professional organizations.

The Director leads a team to create scalable, innovative, high quality and learner-centered degree programs, micro-credentials, and professional development workshops. The Director creates and maintains systems to uphold the quality of online courses and programs, following best practices and accreditation standards.

The Director leads Northern State University’s distance education federal and state compliance efforts, including NC-SARA and State Authorization. The Director maintains and grows their expertise through professional development and collaboratively establishes and creates solutions for the University. The Director serves as Director of Military and Veterans Affairs and works with partners to actively recruit and support qualifying students. The Director reports to the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and Director of Graduate Studies.

Essential Functions

  • Executes a strategy for Northern State University Online Programs
  • Oversees recruitment, communications, and retention strategies for online students
  • Ensures compliance with relevant regulations, accreditation standards, and accessibility guidelines for distance education
  • Administers the summer academic session
  • Advances opportunities at additional locations and with professional development
  • Helps academic leaders make data-informed decisions and supports continuous improvement in delivery of online courses
  • Manages a Team

Minimum Qualifications:

Required master’s degree in business/management, education, higher education, instructional design, or related field. Strong communication skills. Ready to collaborate with internal and external colleagues and students. Organized and able to create and maintain systems. Positive and empowering leader. Empathy for the challenges online, remote, and military and veteran students face and the ability to be a positive, encouraging support for them to succeed.
