Beyond Academic Integrity: Students, AI, and Mental Wellness—What Higher Ed Can Do

  • Timezone : US/Mountain
  • Date : June 26, 2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Meeting Type : Closer Conversation

Most of the AI-in-higher-ed conversation has focused on academic integrity, instructional design, and AI literacy. There’s a parallel conversation happening that higher education leaders are unexpectedly central to: students are using general-purpose AI tools for emotional support, anxiety, loneliness, and the overwhelm of being a student. This is happening through multiple pathways. The general-purpose AI students bring with them, and the AI features increasingly embedded into platforms institutions procure and deploy. Both sit, partly, in your wheelhouse.

Building on Ashleigh Golden’s June 18 WCET Frontiers blog, this Closer Conversation goes deeper on what general-purpose AI does well in this space, where it may quietly cause harm, how to evaluate fit-for-purpose tools that touch student well-being, and what practical steps higher education leaders can take in their own environments.

Registration is free and open to current WCET members. Not a member? Join us! This event is limited to 100 registrations. Participants are invited to interact via video and/or chat. Closer Conversations are not recorded; resources shared during the event will be emailed to registrants afterward.
