Preparing and Planning for DOJ’s Guidelines for Accessibility

  • Timezone : US/Mountain
  • Date : January 31, 2025 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM
  • Meeting Type : Closer Conversation

This event has reached capacity. Due to popular demand, we added a second event on February 7 to cover the DOJ accessibility guidelines! Please note: the events will cover the same topics; please do not register for both events. If you would like to waitlist for the Closer Conversation on January 31, email knawrocki@wiche.edu.

If we reach capacity for the second event, we encourage you to register for our January 30 webcast, Navigating DOJ Accessibility Rules: Practical Approaches for Higher Education, which will also provide an overview of the DOJ rules and strategies for implementation.

Join WCET for a member-only Closer Conversation about the accessibility guidelines from the Department of Justice that your institution needs to know about. The discussion leader will share information about rules that strengthen web and mobile app access for people with disabilities. The final rule affects state and local government entities.

Some of the topics to be discussed:

  • DOJ’s emphasis on mobile apps, social media, and web content in the final rule.
  • WCAG 2.1 AA level of standard for compliance.
  • Responsibility for third-party providers.
  • Timeline to comply for institutions.
  • What you can do at your institution to prepare.
  • Who should be involved at the institution, i.e. student services, academic affairs, and more.

WCET members will have a chance to ask your questions and share your strategies.

Registration is free and open to current WCET members but limited to the first 75 registrations. Participants are invited to interact via video and/or chat. Closer Conversations are not recorded. Resources shared during the Closer Conversation will be emailed to registrants following the event.

If you need additional support to participate fully in this Closer Conversation, please email knawrocki@wiche.edu by January 21, 2025.
