Job Description
Fort Hays State University (FHSU) seeks an Instructional Designer to advance our Digital Master Plan by operationalizing its central question: How do we create human connection in digital spaces? In this role, you will partner directly with faculty to develop online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses centered on instructor presence, peer interaction, and student agency. You will provide strategic expertise across instructional design, educational technology, and the ethical integration of emerging tools like AI to drive student success.

Key Responsibilities

Course & Learning Design

  • Partner with faculty across modalities (online, hybrid, in-person) to align learning outcomes, activities, and assessments.
  • Embed Regular and Substantive Interaction (RSI) into course structures.
  • Apply quality assurance frameworks that prioritize presence, connection, and engagement as intentional design outcomes.

Faculty Development

  • Deliver high-impact consultations, workshops, and resources to strengthen faculty course-design capacity.
  • Guide faculty in making sound, pedagogical decisions regarding AI adoption—identifying where it enhances learning versus where it undermines human connection.
  • Contribute to TILT faculty programming and communities of practice.

Educational Technology & Accessibility

  • Evaluate and recommend educational platforms, tools, and LMS integrations that align with pedagogical goals.
  • Support faculty in implementing technologies that enhance accessibility, usability, and active student engagement.

Data & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist faculty in interpreting course data to inform iterative design improvements.
  • Ensure courses meet institutional standards for quality, RSI compliance, and student success.
  • Document design practices and outcomes to inform TILT initiatives and institutional strategy.
