Job Summary

The Instructional Designer and LMS administrator is primarily responsible for instructional design, training development and delivery, LMS administration, and supporting innovation in educational technology and online learning. The core duties include developing engaging courses and multimedia instructional materials by collaborating with subject matter experts and applying adult learning principles. The individual will provide quality assurance for all developed courses and apply project management skills to ensure timely completion and implement continuous improvement cycles. The role also designs and delivers professional development courses and programs, provides exceptional user support, develops training documentation and resources, and supports faculty in their effective use of technology in teaching

Additionally, the position is responsible for LMS Administration including overseeing all aspects of system administration for the Learning Management System (LMS) and other integrated tools, ensuring optimal functionality, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing user accounts. Other key responsibilities involve supporting innovation and integration including researching and recommending innovative technologies, integrating multimedia and interactive elements, supporting technology adoption campus-wide, and a variety of related functions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design/technology, learning technologies, computer science, or related field to support the duties of the position
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an LMS administrator, Brightspace (D2L) preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as instructional designer building online courses in an academic environment
  • Experience with software applications such as MS Office, Camtasia, H5P, Adobe Creative Suite, and related to design instructional content
  • Experience using and supporting users of a wide array of educational technology applications such as polling/survey tools, video conferencing tools, screen capture, online collaboration tools, e-portfolios, etc. to support teaching and learning
  • Experience assisting faculty, students, and staff to effectively use information and technology in traditional, online and blended learning environments.
  • Experience designing and delivering training and workshops for adult learners
  • Experience working with a team to plan and complete projects
  • Customer service or related help desk experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of learning management systems (LMS) and related tools.
  • Strong working knowledge of instructional design principles, instructional development models, and adult learning theory or training models.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of online teaching pedagogy
  • Knowledge of universal design principles and accessibility standards
  • Familiar with quality online course standards and models such as QM or OSCQR
  • Strong technical skills including troubleshooting, problem solving, and user support of LMS, multimedia tools, and various eLearning tools
  • Proficiency writing scripts using common programming script languages
  • Strong organizational skills, initiative and the ability to complete projects on time with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as individually.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong presentation skills in both an in-person and virtual format
