Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President and Dean of the College of Interdisciplinary and Continuing Studies, the Assistant Dean, Curriculum and Operations is responsible for the college-wide management of all curriculum and operations for Morgan Completes You (MCY). This is a highly collaborative role that works closely with all members of the CICS team, the Center for Innovative Instruction & Scholarship, the Division of Finance and Administration, the Office of Human Resources, the Division of Information Technology, the Title III office, the Bursar’s Office, the Financial Aid Office, the Procurement team, and other university-wide offices.

The Assistant Dean of Curriculum and Operations provides strategic leadership and management for the College of Interdisciplinary and Continuing Studies (CICS), overseeing all aspects of its online educational operations for 18 interdisciplinary degree completion programs. This role is pivotal in shaping and guiding the development of CICS’s undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral online programs, focusing on curriculum development, faculty recruitment, and long-term program planning. The Assistant Dean is responsible for identifying and contracting qualified faculty, ensuring that educational offerings align with the college’s mission and goals, and creating pathways for academic growth and innovation within the college.

In collaboration with the Recruitment and Student Success teams, the Assistant Dean leads curriculum planning and quality assurance efforts. This includes managing course offerings, coordinating teaching assignments, recruiting and retaining adjunct faculty, and evaluating teaching effectiveness to maintain high standards of instruction. By using course data and student feedback, the Assistant Dean recommends curriculum improvements to enhance program quality and effectiveness. Additionally, they work closely with the Dean on financial and project management, establishing budgets for instruction and course development, setting project goals, and overseeing vendor partnerships to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.

This role also involves preparing detailed reports to support CICS operations, analyzing data to inform decision-making, and offering insights into program performance and opportunities for improvement. The Assistant Dean is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising direct reports and provides indirect supervision to additional staff, student workers, and graduate assistants. They actively engage in university service, representing CICS on various committees, collaborating on cross-functional projects, and supporting special assignments as needed. This position plays a key role in fostering a productive, high-quality educational environment that aligns with CICS’s commitment to student success and institutional excellence.

The Assistant Dean is expected to participate in professional development and training opportunities to stay abreast of institutional, federal, and other regulations. As an adult learner centered college, Assistant Dean must be available to work occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends to meet the needs of our students. This role may travel to locations that are not accessible by public transportation.

Job Duties

  • Online Operations: Leads and guides all aspects of CICS’s online educational operations, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral courses. Oversees the strategic development and long-range planning of the CICS degree programs, including curriculum development, faculty identification, and contracting.
  • Curriculum Planning and Quality Assurance: In collaboration with Recruitment and Student Success teams, plans required course offerings. Manages course offerings and teaching assignments. In collaboration with the Dean, cultivates, recruits, and works to retain strong adjunct faculty for online teaching. Identifies faculty training and resources, provides faculty support and coaching, and reviews student evaluations of teaching. Uses course data and student evaluations to regularly assess and identify potential improvements to curriculum.
  • Financial and Project Management: In partnership with the Dean, establish a budget for instruction, course development, and other special projects. Lead CICS projects by defining and documenting project goals and timelines; tracking and confirming project milestones; and coordinating project resources. This role prepares project scope of work statements and may manage internal and external projects, including managing vendor partners, that may be complex and cross-divisional to ensure that the goals are met, deliverables are appropriate to the goal, and that the project is completed on-time and on-budget. Balance competing demands and multiple projects simultaneously with good prioritization approaches.
  • Program Development, Reporting, Assessment and Evaluation: Identify opportunities for new program development and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure program relevance and effectiveness. Develop and evaluate student success programs, services, and resources. Prepare weekly, monthly, semester, and annual reports that use data to describe outcomes. Provide data-driven insights to measure the effectiveness of initiatives and recommend improvements as part of an on-going evaluation and assessment process.
  • Personnel Management and Resource Allocation: Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates direct reports. Develop and administer the Curriculum annual budget and work closely with Financial and Administrative Analyst to ensure fiscal management and strategic planning to include external grants. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of adjunct faculty, contractual employees and student workers to provide exceptionally nuanced and culturally competent curriculum, customer service, and operations. Conduct regular performance evaluations and address all performance matters in a timely and appropriate way following university guidelines and requirements.
  • University Service, Special Projects & Other Duties: Serve as division and departmental representative on various campus committees and groups. Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Assistant Vice President and Dean, including representing CICS at events and functions.
