Chris Gilliard

Chris Gilliard’s work concentrates on privacy, institutional tech policy, digital redlining, and the re-inventions of discriminatory practices through data mining and algorithmic decision-making, especially as these apply to college students. He is currently developing a project that looks at how popular misunderstandings of mathematical concepts create illusions of fairness and objectivity in student analytics, predictive policing, and hiring practices.

Rob Robinson

Rob Robinson is a senior principal partner strategy consultant at Civitas Learning where he works with colleges and universities to help them leverage data analytics to further their mission of student success. Prior to coming to Civitas Learning, Rob was a principal strategist at Blackboard, a position in which he provided strategic consulting services to higher education clients in the US and abroad. Between 2010 and early 2012, he served as assistant vice provost for educational technology at the University of Texas at San Antonio where he led online and hybrid course development and supported faculty and staff across the institution.

Emma Tilson

Emma Tilson is a working, adult student. She has attended a public comprehensive university, a research university, and a community college. She works at the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Emma also worked at a competency-based, online institution. She is familiar with student data collection and usage at a variety of institutional types.

Colleen Carmean

Colleen Carmean is the associate vice Chancellor for academic innovation at University of Washington Tacoma. Her responsibilities include research, strategy, and implementation of academic technologies, elearning, and analytics, focused on developing a culture of evidence, retention, and student success. Colleen has served as an NLII (EDUCAUSE) Fellow, Arizona Wakonse Teaching Fellow, and UW Tacoma Writing Fellow. She is passionate about getting “new traditionals” to the finish line, prepared for the digital age they are entering.

Linda Baer

Linda Baer is a senior consultant with Linda L. Baer Consultants.  She has served over thirty years in numerous executive level positions in higher education including senior program officer in the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, system senior vice chancellor, university senior vice president and interim president, and senior fellow with Civitas Learning. Her ongoing focus is to inspire leaders to improve student success and transform institutions for the future. Linda presents and publishes on educational transformation, partnerships, shared leadership and workshops on building capacity in analytics.  An Analytics Handbook: From Evidence to Impact has recently been published and is available from the Society for College and University Planning.

Verna Lowe

Verna Lowe has served as Western Governors University’s senior manager of compliance and accreditation for Educator Preparation since July 2016. She has served for more than 20 years in higher education in leadership roles as dean of education for both independent and public institutions, assistant to the president, and as vice president for compliance. Verna has also served as a board member for the AACTE, NCATE Board of Examiner, NCATE Unit Accreditation, member of CAEP, and as a Commissioner for the Education Commission of the States.

Chuck Hossler

Chuck Hossler has served as Western Governors University’s manager of compliance and accreditation for the College of Health Professions since June 2016. Chuck previously served 12 years in various leadership roles as associate dean and acting dean for the College of Health at South University and associate dean at the College of Health, Marshall University. He led the development of seven new school or programs at MU including curriculum development and the accreditation process. Chuck serves as a site visitor for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Wes Miller

A strategist at heart and award-winning copywriter, Wes Miller joined Wiley in 2012 and brings over a decade of experience in content marketing and content strategy. He is responsible for the oversight, strategic development, and lifecycle management of all content and creative work across the Wiley Education Services partner portfolio. In addition to higher education, he has supported marketing efforts across a variety of verticals including consumer products, food, and beverage, real estate, technology, and entertainment. He has created campaigns for some of today’s most prominent brands such as Kraft, Coca-Cola, SC Johnson, and Samsung, as well as with leading retailers such as eBay, Walmart, Sam’s Club, and CVS. Wes holds an MBA with a concentration in internet marketing from Benedictine University, as well as a BA in advertising and public relations and BFA in theatre — both from the University of Central Florida.

Cory Berntson

Cory Berntson is the executive director of student recruitment within enrollment services at Wiley Education Services. He is responsible for working with marketing, operations, and industry partners to advance the organization through key technology enhancements and process improvement. Prior to joining Wiley over fifteen years ago, Cory was the community relations coordinator at Keiser University in Florida where he developed relationships with high schools, vocational schools, and local businesses to promote the college and drive student enrollments. He earned his BA from the University of Utah in sociology and philosophy and his MA in applied sociology from the University of Central Florida. Cory has done additional graduate coursework in organization leadership and industrial psychology.
